Facebook profile misuse ? What does it mean ? Just scroll down to the picture below to see what i mean…..
If you use Facebook as part of your professional life then misuse of your Facebook profile picture will be problematic.
I am writing this blog after 2 of my friends complained that their profile pictures where being used in a separate facebook ID with a different name (just like the one in the above). This Facebook ID had their friend list members and was being used to communicate with people in the list.
My friends said that it was frustrating as the ID’s existence sent wave of confusion among their family and college friends.
Thankfully, this was swiftly solved when they reported the fake ID to Facebook.
After this incident, I found out that far away in South India, Facebook users in India especially women faced this issue by a very large extent.
To tackle this problem, Facebook teamed up with an Indian Illustrator to make profile pictures less exploitive by other users.
This was announced by Facebook in India yesterday.
75% of people were less likely to copy a photo when the guard option was left on.
Facebook took this initiative after the company carried out a research in India . The research revealed that “some women choose not to share profile pictures that include their faces anywhere on the internet because they’re concerned about what may happen to their photos.”
Tests carried out showed 75% of people were less likely to copy a photo when the guard option was left on.
TEST RESULTS : Determining Facebook Profile Misuse
The Profile protection adds an extra design layer added to the profile picture. Results of the feature showed when implementing an extra design layer to the profile picture-other people were less likely to copy that picture.
If a user suspects that a picture ,marked with a one of these design layout is misused they can report this to Facebook.
NEW CONTROL FOR Facebook Profile Misuse
When applying this profile guard :
- People will not be able to download, share or even send your profile picture in a message on Facebook.
- People you are not friends with on Facebook will be unable to tag anyone. This includes themselves, in your profile picture.
- A blue border will be displayed and shield around your profile picture as a visual cue of protection.
- Where possible, people may be prevented from taking a screenshot of your profile picture on Facebook. This feature is currently only available on Android devices.
Moving onto my friend’s -although they are not Indians, Facebook thankfully said they hoped to expand this profile security option to other countries. I believe Facebook profile misuse is a problem that exist everywhere around the globe of Facebook networking.
